Dell Data Protection Terrible Software
As you can see below, my question that was asked a year ago still has not been answered. Dell Data Protection has been a pain in my side ever since we purchased it. The support is terrible, and there is hardly any useful documentation out there. I am in the same boat again with a different laptop, unable to decrypt and uninstall because the temporary keys downloaded from the server are encrypted. I have disabled all encryption policies on this laptop, yet the user profile is still encrypted. This software is absolute JUNK! We are moving to sophos encryption... their support is much more knowledgeable, and their software is much easier to work with.

Unable to decrypt!
So we have Dell Data Protection Enterprise and I am trying to decrypt the files on a laptop so I can move the files to a new laptop. Whenever I try to decrypt the laptop says that it can't decrypt the file that contains the keys. Can someone help me out? This is for an executive and I really need it done ASAP

DDP|E help?
I see a comment on here that this is not the right place to go to ask questions about Dell Data Protection | Encryption, but there is no indication of where the right place actually is, so I'm posing my question here anyway.
I'm trying to set up the DDP|E software with two policies - one to encrypt only external media when plugged in; mostly for desktop PC's that will not be leaving the office, and another to encrypt the full disk as well as external media; for laptops that might contain sensitive data and may travel off-site. Based on these needs, we ordered licenses for external media only and enterprise. I would really like to configure my endpoint groups to distinguish between which license is installed on the machine, to determine which policy to apply, because I don't want to try and encrypt the full disk of a machine we have only installed the external media edition on. Is that possible, or do I need to pull all the computer name's for each situation and fill out an endpoint group specification with all of those?

Endpoints going out of compliance after reboot
We just recently installed DDPE and we are having an issue where all of our devices after a reboot will go out of compliance and ask for a reboot to go back into compliance, and once we reboot it is in compliance... but the next reboot will cause it to go out of compliance. Can anyone help with this issue?

Server 2012 VM with Deduplication and AppAssure protection
I need to protect two MS Server 2012 VM's that are going to manage our new DFS file stores. We are in the process of converting from many physical servers with individual DAS to a handful of virtual Servers and DFS. Both of these VM's have Windows Server 2012 Data Deduplication running, When I added protection I got a warning that, 'The volume that you are trying to protect has Windows Deduplication on, which may cause issues with accessing the data.' I was able to complete adding of protection but completed it paused until I can get some answers. We have a third party setting up the new Virtual servers and assisting with the migration of data, so at this point no one has been able tell me why deduplication is enabled, and whether it need to remain enabled post migration.
Any insight to this would be greatly appreciated.

Policy Change - Every Startup
I recently setup a new laptop to make use of the pre-installed Dell Data Protection software.
I don't usually bother with this, but the laptop in question was one used by our financial manager and therefore could hold some quite sensitive data.
I set it up, and entered a admin password for DDP console. All seems to be working fine, except every single boot & login the user gets a box asking for the admin password due to a recent policy update.
How do you stop this appearing... I have no idea what policy is being updated, none have been changed from initial setup. An yes, on every boot we are entering the admin password... once that happens its happy until the next reboot.
Thanks
Russell.

Core Auto Update to v 5.4.2.189 causes me to jump ship![]()
Hi all.
Well I can respect and realize that there are always growing pains etc when new releases, features, and other general updates are available, today is my last straw. Since I installed this software, pre the Dell purchase, I had very few issues (v4 with the slow console). Since Dell has gotten a hold of it, I can write a book on all the issues, paused protection or NO protection, replay services that NEVER start on a reboot..repositories that get corrupted, or go offline until a full scan is completed...more than once...on and on and on.
Last night was no exception.
As I posted in the Dell Appassure Forum this AM, I am on my last days of this particular babysitting job. As of last night sometime after 1:15am, Appassure v5.4.1.77 decided to do an AutoUpdate to v5.4.2.189.
STATUS: Failed miserably. And I mean miserably...to the point of loosing ALL faith is this software.
Looking at email from Replay last night, it was telling me one of my DC's were off-line. Hmmmm, thats never a good sign. A quick VPN connection to confirm Appassure is WRONG and my DC is just fine...Appassure on the other hand is NOT. As it was early morning I decided to wait until this AM.
Coming into work this AM.
Core has failed the upgrade.....in the process all my protected machines were no longer being protected. 8 hours of no protection...AGAIN.
Cancelled the Upgrade job and tried to restart it numerous times ( 5 to be exact). Continues to FAIL.
Not only that...here is the kicker.......I get a call from my ISP about an hour later saying my bandwidth was going nuts from about 2:00am last night until this morning. Do I have anything going on with our network???
Hmmmm well....Apparently YES I DO. Its called >>>>>>>APPASSURE
So for over 7 hours Appassure was consuming bandwidth even tho it was't doing anything. Brilliant!
This backup software is not even close to a set it and forget it solution. It continually has issues. Almost EVERY day I use it, something somewhere fails.
I do not think there is anything that could make me stay with this product. Not even if it was FREE. Well...maybe, but I would still have to think about it.
As much as I hate to say it.....'The bottom line is': I can no longer justify the time required on maintaining this software at a functional level to the people I report to. They no longer want to hear about the issues.....period!!
I am now off to see the Wizard.....about some backup software!!

Microsoft Failover Cluster - How to Recover?
This is a cross-post from the other forum, which seems to have little activity). > http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/data-protection/f/4816/t/19580329.aspx
Wanted to also post here since this one caught me by surprise and many may not be aware of this limitation until it's too late. Many of us have Microsoft Failover Clusters (SQL, Exchange, etc.), which AppAssure gladly accepts and backs up as a cluster object. Many of us also replicate this data to our DR site with the belief that if needed, we can spin up this cluster object as a VM. But I learned that this cannot be done! >
So the question then becomes, once you have backed up your Failover cluster, how do you efficiently recover it?

AppAssure Reporting
When will you have any sort of usable reporting package in AppAssure 5? The canned reports in the console stink and offer me no value and to get them to run automatically is becoming a waist of time. Scripting isn't my forte so trying to use powershell has been a nightmare. What I am looking for and I am assume many others is a similar reporting package (and features) like in Replay.
Thanks

Configuring Automatic Updates on AppAssure 5 Core
Trying to upgrade from 5.3.7 to 5.4.1 at the request of a Dell Support tech who is helping me resolve a couple of issues with certain pesky machines that AppAssure can't seem to back up properly. According to the Dell AppAssure 5 UserGuide, this should be as simple as configuring automatic updates.
'To configure update settings
1 Navigate to the AppAssure 5 Core Console and click the Configuration tab, and then Settings.
2 In the Updates pane, click Change.
The Update Settings dialog box displays.
3 In the Check for new updates text box, select the frequency for checking for and installing updates after
the nightly jobs are complete.
4 Specify the handling of the updates if they are available by choosing one of the following options:
• Install them automatically (recommended) or
• Notify me but do not install them
5 Click OK.'
But... I don't have an Updates pane on my Configuration>Settings tab in my Core Console.
Please advise.

Appassure 5.3.7.68
Hi all.
Srvr2008R1/16GB Mem/ 8 cores
Ok...this is driving me nuts. If I have Windows updates to do on the CORE. I pause all protection, suspend VM exports etc. I install the Windows updates and reboot. (Yes...everything gets PAUSED until manual resume)
Why is it that every time I do this it looses my repositories and I have to manually 'scan' it to have it available again. Repository is 2.5TB. Not only that, I also notice that if ANY PC is rebooted, the Appassure Service NEVER starts on its own...EVER. So when I go looking at whats going on, low and behold, No protection again because this service refuses to start on various PC that had windows updates that require reboots.
I get no email alerts that tell me things aren't working. So what is the email supposed to be sending me?? Because in fact, this Core has never sent me an email, except when I sent a TEST to make sure it works!! Since then, not a single email about status.
Then as it scans, it takes all day to do this, so I have ZERO protection until this is finished. It would be faster for me to create a new repository.
This is the second time in two days this has done this. And before that, it lost it just because, for no apparent reason. Email alerts DID NOT tell me the repository was OFFLIne. So no protection for days until I realized it.
Not to mention that this software is unable to update agents remotely, another deal breaker.
Anyone else having this issue?
Opps...spoke to soon. Now the console is stalling, Firefox 'not responding', then a script error, then the script error popup changes to 'not responding'. Script error is: https://replay:8006/apprecovery/admin
/DXR.axd?r=1_44,1_76,...along with 50 more numbers.
Argggggggggg Frustration is Maxxed out.
Lets reboot and watch my repositoriesdisappear, because I have nothing but time to waste.

Dell Data Protection Encryption Download Windows 10issues with appassure just popped up
I am not sure what is causing this and have been everywhere. I looked in sql server and it shows the full text at the right locoation but i think appassure is looking somewhere else . Error logs show this .
The operating system returned the error '3(The system cannot find the path specified.)' while attempting 'ClearTree' on 'e:Epicorfulltextcatalogscustxprtcustxprt' at 'fulltext.cpp'(1816).
I have talked to epicor and they stated it is not there problem is is appassure. As in sql the path is
e:fulltextcatalogsepicor
Notice the difference in path names. This is why the path is not there. I can not find anywhere in the registry or else where that the path is on the backup server. Any help would be appreciated.
